John Bailey
John is a Director who leads the Whiteboard practice and serves as co-publisher of Education Insider. He specializes in
strategic consulting, policy counsel, and philanthropic
advisory services. His expertise includes education, health care, technology, and
telecommunications.
Prior to joining Dutko, John served in a number of positions in the Bush Administration working on domestic and innovation policy. He most recently served in the White House as part of the President’s Domestic Policy Council where he was responsible for coordinating education and labor issues.
John's experience with education policy has included roles at the state and federal level and with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He served as an ex-officio member of the U.S. Department of Education’s Commission on the Future of Higher Education in 2006. As the nation’s second Director of Educational Technology and Pennsylvania’s first Director of Educational Technology, he launched the development of several initiatives to expand online learning and improve the use of technology and data in education.
At the White House, John coordinated the Administration’s successful effort to stabilize student loans during the recent credit crisis and served as one of the lead negotiators with Congress during the reauthorization of the Trade Adjustment Assistance program. John served as the Deputy Policy Director to the Secretary of Commerce from 2005-2007 where he focused on immigration reform, pandemic preparedness, and healthcare.
In 2009, John was named as one of 25 American Council on Germany “Young Leaders” to participate in an annual conference with German business, finance, and government professionals. He was also selected by eSchoolNews as one of the 30 most influential leaders in the education technology industry. He is a frequent contributor to the National Journal’s “Education Experts” blog and cited in the LA Times, Education Week, NPR, and The Atlantic. He is also a board member for the Data Quality Campaign and the regional board of Indego Africa.
