The Explosion of Mobile Services
Interesting new presentation from Business Insider's Henry Blodget on the explosive growth of mobile services. A couple of interesting stats:
Pinterest - grew from 1M to 16M UVs per month in 7 months
Instagram growing from 0 to 25M users in 1.3 years
Angry Birds with over 600M downloads to date
OMGPOP's DrawSomething growing to 1 million users in 9 days (it took Facebook 9 months) and 12M users per day with $100k+ in daily revenue
Also worth noting that the number of smartphones outsold the number of PCs sold last year. And BusinessWeek pointed out that in just the fourth quarter of 2011 alone, Apple sold 15.4 million iPads - more than the number of PCs sold by Hewlett-Packard, the world's number one maker of Windows PCs.
We have talked about the importance of mobile in education as one of the top education tech trends to watch in 2012 as well as back in 2010. These trends are important in terms of planning for the new RttT Assessments as well as thinking about building out mobile learning services for a mobile generation of students.
