July 2012 Education Insider
Today
we released the results of our July Education Insider survey. The Insider
survey continues to garner media attention as a tool for understanding and
predicting education trends; the Huffington
Post published a piece earlier today which discusses our analysis of the
Common Core assessment consortia.
Interestingly, this month’s poll shows that 80 percent of Insiders believe
school districts are very unprepared for the new Common Core standards and see
multiple challenges to successful implementation. The poll also shows continued
concern about the direction of the assessment consortia. 45% believe that
neither assessment consortia will meet the 2014 deadline of delivering new
assessments.
This month’s poll also shows concern about districts’ abilities to implement
the new assessments – 45% view the inability of school districts to implement
the new assessments as a major obstacle to districts’ success, while 20% see
technology infrastructure as a major issue.
From a Washington perspective, Congressional approval remains low, at 0%, and the group remains unconvinced that ESEA reauthorization will happen any time soon.
