September 2012 Education Insider: Convention Wisdom

Share |

This month's survey asked our Insiders to react to the Democratic and Republican National Conventions. Key highlights include:

  • 78% of Insiders say that the inclusion of Common Core State Standards in the Democratic Party platform will hurt efforts to enact these standards.
  • Insiders remain concerned about the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium; 67% of Insiders say it is on the wrong track. 31% say the same thing about PARCC.
  • 67% of Insiders say the Democrats had the more compelling convention message about education, although Insiders generally do not believe that either platform will have a direct effect on education policy. According to one Insider, "Platforms don't affect process."
