August 2013 Insider: Tony Bennett, California CORE Waivers, and Gainful Employment
This month, we asked Insiders to weigh in on the implications of Tony Bennett's resignation, California districts' ESEA waiver, and gainful employment regulations. Among the highlights:
- 75% of Insiders believe that Tony Bennett's resignation in Florida makes the state more likely to withdraw from the PARCC Common Core assessment consortium.
- 79% of Insiders see the Indiana school grading controversy as a significant threat to A-F school grading systems.
- Three out of four Insiders believe the district waiver the Department of Education granted to a consortium of school districts in California was bad policy.
- A small majority of Insiders believe the negotiated rulemaking panel for forлprofit colleges is biased against those colleges; nonetheless most Insiders think the final regulation will be about as favorable or more favorable to those schools than the previous regulation.
