Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon, is launching a $2 billion fund for philanthropic efforts called the Bezos Day One Fund. The fund will be made up of the Day 1 Families Fund and the Day 1 Academies Fund.
The Day 1 Families Fund will fund nonprofits and organizations that are providing assistance to homeless families. The Day 1 Academies Fund will be focused on launching and operating “a network of high-quality, full-scholarship, Montessori-inspired preschools in underserved communities.” In his statement, Bezos said that the preschools will be operated with the same customer service principles core to Amazon’s business model, with each child as the customer.
