Late 2011 and early 2012 saw some federal action around ESEA reauthorization. The Senate passed a bill out of committee in November followed by a House committee bill in February. However, as our Insiders have predicted since 2010, ESEA looks unlikely to pass Congress in the foreseeable future. The Administration is continuing to press for their reform pack through the President's budget request and are also exploring the use of waivers in exchange for states committing to pieces of the reform package.
Keeping track of all the changes is difficult, so Whiteboard has prepared the attached side-by-side comparing current ESEA law with the House bill, the Senate bill, and the proposals advanced by the Administration in their Blueprint and waiver initiative.
